The Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport program has received further recognition for its commitment to inclusion and sustainability

The Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 initiative has received yet another international recognition. At the ACES “Best Sports Practices” World Congress held in Ascoli Piceno, Italy, our program won first prize in the innovation category, demonstrating the uniqueness of our regional sports concept and community collaboration.

In addition to physical activity, sports are the strongest bond connecting communities— this was one of the key messages of the ACES (European Association of Capitals and Cities of Sport) “Best Sports Practices” World Congress. The city of Ascoli Piceno, Italy, hosted a truly inspiring professional event, where public administration and institutional decision-makers from three continents gathered.

The significance of the event is well illustrated by the diversity of the participants: 4 continents (Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa) were represented, with delegates from a total of 40 cities participating in the event, where more than 60 projects were presented on the international stage.

The meeting featured genuine, cross-border dialogue and a valuable exchange of experiences, with the focus on the triad of sports, inclusion, and sustainability.

We are immensely proud that, in this exceptionally strong, global field, experts have also highlighted the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 program. Based on the jury’s decision, our initiative won first prize in the innovation category!
