Ildikó Szabó Angéla’s Midnight Farrowing and Go or Stay? in Ruttner House café. Through the story of one family, the books recount the defining years of Hungarian history, years filled with human tragedy.
Midnight Farrowing is a story based on true events, with which the author pays tribute to his grandfather, Dr. Miklós Szabó, a regional high court judge (1890–1969).
The novel takes the reader back to Hungary in 1951, during the series of deportations from the capital: intellectual and noble families were stripped of their homes and forced into exile in the countryside.
Dr. Szabó Miklós, a judge on the Court of Appeals, was deported to Újszilvás with his wife and two young children.
The story continues in the novel titled Go or Stay?. Set between 1954 and 1957, the book focuses on the further trials and tribulations of the Szabó family.
The political and historical upheavals of the era transformed not only the life of the country, but also led to life-changing decisions for families and individuals alike.
The second volume completes the family's story, which unfolds during the Rákosi era.
At the book launch, the author will be joined in conversation by Kornél Pintér, president of the Hungarian Rural National ’56 Organization.
The discussion partner at the book launch could not be a more credible figure than Kornél Pintér, Knight, as he has been dedicated to preserving the memory of the revolution for decades, and as a recognized collector of ’56 artifacts, and as an expert, he ensures that the presentation in Veszprém will be not merely a book presentation, but a profound and indispensable journey through history.
The books will be available for purchase at the event.
With this event, the organizers also pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the communist dictatorship.
